21 CFR Part 507 is the US FDA rule establishing Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals. It applies to facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold animal food in the United States.
The regulation is structured in subparts: Subpart B sets out the Current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements (personnel, plant and grounds, sanitation, water supply), while Subpart C sets out Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls, including the requirement for a written Food safety plan.
Pet-food relevance: any US facility making or holding pet food / animal feed must meet the CGMP baseline and, where a hazard requiring a preventive control exists, must document a hazard analysis and food safety plan. This is the US manufacturing-safety counterpart to the EU feed-hygiene framework (Reg (EC) 183/2005 — see mfg_food_safety_eu_183_2005).
