Feedipedia supplement for FDC-pending feed ingredients
Of the 17 ingredients that had no match in USDA FDC (human-food database), 10 were supplemented on 2026-07-19 from Feedipedia (feedipedia.org, the open INRAE/CIRAD/AFZ animal-feed ingredient database); 7 remain pending_not_found (no Feedipedia entry or no nutrient datasheet). Each supplemented entry in pdf-parsed/usda_fdc_petfood_ingredients_20260718.json carries source: "feedipedia", source_url, the page title and feed item, plus a basis note.
Method & basis. Feedipedia publishes average analysed values on a dry-matter (DM) basis (macro-minerals g/kg DM, trace minerals mg/kg DM, amino acids per unit of protein). Values were converted to per 100 g as fed using the entry's average DM so they stay comparable with the FDC per-100 g entries. Carbohydrate by difference (fiber included, FDC convention) and Atwater energy (4/9/4 kcal/g) are calculated, not analysed. Fibre is crude fibre (not total dietary fibre). Amino acids and full minerals are in the JSON. Names cross-checked against AAFCO 2024 Ch.6 definitions (aafco_ch6_2024_parsed.json covers poultry by-product meal, meat and bone meal, fish meal, corn gluten meal, brewers rice, dried beet pulp, tomato pomace, alfalfa meal, brewers dried yeast).

- potato protein — page exists (node/25984) but datasheet pending revision, no values
Limitations. Feedipedia values are multi-source averages (SD and Min/Max on the source pages can be wide, e.g. iron in poultry by-product meal), not single-lot analyses; basis conversion assumes the average DM; Atwater energy is the human-food convention, not pet-food modified Atwater; crude fibre underestimates total dietary fibre for plant ingredients.
