Does a label have to use the text statement in the graphic tile, regardless of if we use the storage & handling graphics or not under PF12? For example: When referring to refrigeration needs, must the exact verbatim statement as under the icon in the graphic the OP “REFRIGERATE unused portions or discard”. Or can the text (without any graphics) be something like: Refrigerate after opening. If only text is used, then that text does NOT have to be verbatim. If any graphic is used, then the graphic AND text must be exactly the same as in the tile with the icon and text. Remember that for labels with a total printable area of greater than or equal to 40 square inches, any text regarding handling and storage instructions must be accompanied by a bold header: Handling and Storage Instructions. The header and instructions must be separate and distinct from Feeding Directions. They “shall be displayed in a conspicuous manner so to render them likely to be read under typical conditions of use.” Labels with a Total Printable Area of less than 40 sq. in., the instructions do Not require the header. 6
