EU entry requirements for pet dogs, cats & ferrets (from a non-EU country)

Identification
The pet animal (dog, cat or ferret) must be "identified by the implantation of a microchip". A "clearly readable tattoo" is accepted only if "applied before 3 July 2011".
Rabies vaccination
The pet animal must be "vaccinated against rabies by an official or an authorised veterinarian". The "period of validity of the vaccination starts not less than 21 days from the completion of the vaccination protocol".
Rabies antibody titration test (non-listed third countries)
A "Rabies antibody titration test" is required for animals from non-listed third countries. The blood sample must be "collected by an authorised veterinarian at least 30 days after the date of the primary vaccination" and "not less than 90 days before the date of issue of the animal health certificate". The test must "measure a level of neutralising antibody to rabies virus in serum equal to or greater than 0,5 IU/ml".
Tapeworm treatment (dogs only)
"Treatment against tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis": "Pet dogs (not pet cats or pet ferrets) must be treated against the parasite Echinococcus multilocularis prior to entering: any EU country listed in Annex XIX".
Documentation
The animal must be accompanied by an "animal health certificate" that is "valid for 10 days from the date of issue". "Specific arrangements for United Kingdom" apply (an EU pet passport issued to a GB-resident owner is recognised).
Note: animals from EU-listed countries (Annex I/II) are not subject to the rabies antibody titration test. Country lists and rules change; confirm the current list before travel.
