Life-stage × jurisdiction vitamin matrix (dog & cat adult maintenance)

Fat-soluble vitamin minimum (and where given, maximum) levels for adult maintenance, compiled from the parsed cross-standard index and the NIAS 2024 standard. All values are expressed in IU/kg dry matter (IU/kg DM) so the three standards are directly comparable. Every numeric cell is a verbatim value of the named source files; the NIAS raw values are published per 100 g DM and are converted to IU/kg DM by ×10 (labelled "raw/100 g DM" in parentheses). Cells not present in a source are honest gaps, never interpolated.

Dog — adult maintenance (fat-soluble vitamins, IU/kg DM)

VitaminAAFCO 2026 (US)FEDIAF 2025 (EU)NIAS 2024 (KR)
Vitamin A (min)50006065000 (raw 500 /100 g DM)
Vitamin A (max)25000040000400000 (raw 40000 /100 g DM)
Vitamin D (min)50055.2500 (raw 50 /100 g DM)
Vitamin D (max)30003203200 (raw 320 /100 g DM)
Vitamin E (min)503.636 (raw 3.6 /100 g DM)

AAFCO sets no maximum for vitamin E; FEDIAF sets no vitamin E maximum for adult dog.

Cat — adult maintenance (fat-soluble vitamins, IU/kg DM)

VitaminAAFCO 2026 (US)FEDIAF 2025 (EU)NIAS 2024 (KR)
Vitamin A (min)33323333330 (raw 333 /100 g DM)
Vitamin A (max)33330040000400000 (raw 40000 /100 g DM)
Vitamin D (min)28025.0250 (raw 25 /100 g DM)
Vitamin D (max)30080300030080 (raw 3008 /100 g DM)
Vitamin E (min)403.838 (raw 3.8 /100 g DM)

Cats tolerate a far higher vitamin D maximum than dogs (AAFCO 30080, NIAS 30080 IU/kg DM) versus FEDIAF's 3000 IU/kg DM ceiling. AAFCO and NIAS set no vitamin E maximum.

Method & honest-gap notes

  • Source of truth: pdf-parsed/cross_standard_nutrient_index.jsonaafco_us_2026

(dog/cat adult maintenance) and fediaf_2025_summary.lifestages (dog adult nutrients_110kcal, cat adult nutrients_100kcal); plus pdf-parsed/kr-2026/korea_nias_nutrient_standard.json tables 표 2-17b (dog 성견) and 표 2-17f (cat 성묘). Each quoted number is a verbatim value of the source JSON; NIAS raw per-100 g DM values are converted to IU/kg DM by ×10 and labelled.

  • FEDIAF dog adult uses the 110 kcal/kg BW^0.67 column (inactive); FEDIAF cat adult

uses the 100 kcal/kg BW^0.67 column — matching the existing life_stage_nutrient_matrix AAFCO-vs-FEDIAF protein/fat/Ca/P extraction.

  • Minerals (Fe, Zn, Cu, I, Se) and taurine are intentionally excluded here: AAFCO/FEDIAF

report trace minerals per kg DM while NIAS reports per 100 g DM, and selenium units differ (AAFCO mg/kg vs FEDIAF ㎍/kg), so a like-for-like comparison requires explicit unit reconciliation — recorded as an honest gap pending that reconciliation.

  • Reproduce: re-read the named index keys / NIAS table cells; each quoted number is a

substring/value of the source JSON (raw values verified before the ×10 conversion).
