Article 5 — Permitted Animal Ingredients
Korean: 제5조(사용할 수 있는 동물성 원료) ① 반려동물 사료에 사용할 수 있는 동물성 원료는 별표와 같으며, 별표 제2호를 제외하고는 자국산 원료를 사용하여야 한다.
English: Animal ingredients listed in the Annex are allowed to be used in pet food, and domestic ingredients shall be used except those described in Paragraph 2 of the Annex.
Key condition: Ingredients derived from animals that have not been determined eligible in ante-mortem inspection carried out by the exporting country's veterinary officer shall not be used for manufacturing of pet food.
Annex (별표) — Conditions for Animal Ingredients
1. Sourcing from Import-Prohibited Regions (conditional on heat treatment)
Pork from import-prohibited regions: Core temperature ≥ 70°C for ≥ 30 minutes (or equivalent method).
Poultry from import-prohibited regions:
- Moist heat: 56°C for ≥ 30 min, OR internal temperature ≥ 74°C throughout the product
- Exception: Extruded dry pet food — no heat treatment requirement
Poultry eggs from import-prohibited regions (specific time/temperature combinations):
- Whole egg liquid/powder: 60°C for 188 sec OR 61.1°C for 94 sec
- Liquid egg white: 55.6°C for 870 sec OR 56.7°C for 232 sec
- Liquid egg yolk: 60.0°C for 288 sec; 10% salted yolk: 62.2°C for 138 sec
- Egg white powder: 67°C for 20 hours OR 54.4°C for 50.4 hours
- Egg yolk powder: 63.5°C for 3.5 minutes
- Egg shell/membrane: 60°C for 507 sec, OR 65°C for 42 sec, OR 70°C for 3.5 sec, OR 73.9°C for ≥ 0.51 sec
2. Imported Ingredients Used in the Exporting Country
Animal products must meet the conditions in Paragraph 1 and be legally imported into the exporting country.
