- Licensing system: China operates a veterinary-clinic licensing system — "国家实行动物诊疗许可制度。从事动物诊疗活动的机构，应当取得动物诊疗许可证，并在规定的诊疗活动范围内开展动物诊疗活动。" Any institution engaging in animal diagnosis/treatment must obtain an Animal Diagnosis & Treatment License (动物诊疗许可证) and practise within its licensed scope.
- Definition of animal diagnosis & treatment: "本办法所称动物诊疗，是指动物疾病的预防、诊断、治疗和动物绝育手术等经营性活动，包括动物的健康检查、采样、剖检、配药、给药、针灸、手术、填写诊断书和出具动物诊疗有关证明文件等。" Animal diagnosis & treatment includes disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and neutering/spay surgery, plus health checks, sampling, dispensing, acupuncture, surgery, writing diagnoses and issuing vet certificates.
- Medical records: "动物诊疗机构应当使用载明机构名称的规范病历，包括门（急）诊病历和住院病历。病历档案保存期限不得少于三年。" Clinics must keep standard medical records (outpatient/emergency and inpatient) under the institution's name; records must be retained for at least three years.
- Animal clinic (动物诊所) threshold: "动物诊所除具备本办法第六条规定的条件外，还应当具备下列条件： （一）具有一名以上执业兽医师； （二）具有布局合理的手术室和手术设备。" An animal clinic requires at least one licensed veterinarian (执业兽医师) plus a properly laid-out surgical room and equipment.
- Epidemic reporting: "发现动物染疫或者疑似染疫的，应当按照国家规定立即向所在地农业农村主管部门或者动物疫病预防控制机构报告，并迅速采取隔离、消毒等控制措施，防止动物疫情扩散。" On finding an infected or suspected-infected animal, the clinic must immediately report to the local agriculture/animal-disease-control authority and take isolation/disinfection measures to prevent spread.
