MX labeling Spanish required

Mexican pet food labeling per USDA GAIN FAIRS Country Report MX2025-0049 (December 2025): NOM-051-SCFI-2010 (general labeling for prepackaged food and non-alcoholic beverages) entered into force January 1, 2011 and was last amended March 27, 2020; it is jointly enforced by PROFECO (Federal Consumer Protection Agency, Ministry of Economy) and COFEPRIS. Spanish labeling is mandatory: the original English label may remain if an additional Spanish label (adhesive sticker permitted) stays affixed until the product reaches the consumer, and Spanish text must be in a font size equal to or larger than other languages; a US nutrition panel must be covered by a Spanish one. Mandatory elements include: product name/description; brand name; exporter's name and address; country of origin; importer's name, address and RFC tax number; list of ingredients; net content/drained mass; manufacturer and importer information; batch number; expiration date (DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY per Codex); and nutritional information. The report's front-of-pack warning-octagon provisions belong to NOM-051's human-food obesity amendments (phase II ended September 30, 2025; phase III sets full implementation) — the FAIRS report does not extend them to pet food, and it contains no pet-food-specific labeling NOM: the earlier-cited "NOM-001-SAG/GAN-2014" is not in the source (the report's NOM-001-SAG/BIO-2014 covers biotechnology/environmental release). Pet-food-specific oversight instead runs through the Federal Animal Health Law, under which SADER oversees pet and animal feed.
