FEDIAF 2025 mineral limits

FEDIAF 2025 maximum mineral levels in complete pet food come in two kinds (Tables III-3a/III-4a, per 100 g DM): nutritional maxima (N) and EU legal maxima (L). Dogs: Calcium maximum 1.60 g (N) for early growth, 1.80 g (N) for late growth, and 2.50 / 1.60 g (N) for adults (95/110 MER columns) — the late-growth 1.8% aligns with AAFCO 2014's growth maximum; no standalone phosphorus maximum is set, with phosphorus instead bounded by the Ca:P ratio (minimum 1/1; maximum 2/1 adult, 1.6/1 early growth & reproduction, 1.8/1a or 1.6/1b late growth); Lysine has a growth maximum of 2.80 g (N); Linoleic acid an early-growth maximum of 6.50 g (N). Cats: Ca:P maximum 1.5/1 (N) for growth and 2/1 (N) for adults; growth maxima for arginine 3.50 g, methionine 1.30 g, tryptophan 1.70 g (all N). Trace elements share EU legal maxima for both species (per 100 g DM): Zinc 22.70 mg (L) = 227 mg/kg; Copper 2.80 mg (L) = 28 mg/kg; Iron 68.18 mg (L) = 681.8 mg/kg; Manganese 17.00 mg (L) = 170 mg/kg; Iodine 1.10 mg (L) = 11 mg/kg; Selenium 56.80 µg (L) = 0.568 mg/kg. FEDIAF sets no maximums for sodium, potassium, magnesium, or cobalt in these tables. Legal maxima apply to the total nutrient amount when added as an additive (12% moisture basis per Regulation 1831/2003); above a maximum, the product should not be marketed as a complete pet food without specific justification.
