EU renal function PARNUT

EU Regulation 2020/354 Part B Entry 10 establishes the PARNUT (Particular Nutritional Purpose) for "Support of renal function in case of chronic renal insufficiency." For dogs: high quality proteins and phosphorus ≤ 5 g/kg complete feed (12% moisture basis) plus crude protein ≤ 220 g/kg complete feed. For cats: high quality proteins and phosphorus ≤ 6.5 g/kg complete feed (12% moisture basis) plus crude protein ≤ 320 g/kg complete feed. Recommended length of use: initially up to 6 months. The feed must indicate "It is recommended that advice from a veterinarian be sought before use and before extending the period of use." Entry 11 (Reduction of oxalate stones formation) and Entry 14 (Reduction of cystine stones formation — characterised by urine alkalinising properties) are related but distinct PARNUTs; urate stones are Entry 16. 2020/354 consolidated 2025-04-22 retains these values; the M2 amendment (Reg 2025/639 of 1 April 2025) did not modify the renal PARNUT.
