EU Feed Materials Register (FMR) โ verified overview (2026-07-19 rewrite against eu_fmr_index_20260714.txt and eu_fmr_products_20260714_v4.json).
What it is: Regulation (EC) No 767/2009, Article 24(6), requires a person who first places on the market a feed material not listed in the Catalogue (Reg (EU) No 68/2013) to notify its use to the representatives of the European feed business sectors; those representatives "shall publish a Register of such notifications on the Internet and update the Register on a regular basis". The FMR is that register. It is not maintained by EFSA, and inclusion is a notification, not an approval โ the site provides all information "as-is" without warranty.
Snapshot of 2026-07-14 (local extract): 4,704 notified products. Each entry carries: register id (e.g. 007483-EN), material name, notification date, FMR product category, free-text description (often multilingual, submitted by the notifier), and a mapping to the Reg 68/2013 catalogue chapter where determinable.
Reg 68/2013 chapter mapping of the 4,704 entries: 6_Forages 815; 11_Minerals 526; 9_Animal_products 362; 7_Other_plants 327; 4_Tubers 311; 3_Legumes 309; 2_Oil_seeds 245; 1_Cereals 185; 12_Fermentation 156; 8_Milk 118; 5_Other_seeds 101; 10_Fish 85; Unknown/unmapped 1,164.
Insects are tracked as an FMR product category: 200 entries in the snapshot (only 10 notified during 2024). Notification years in the snapshot span 2010-2026 (2024: 103 entries; 2025: 100; 2026: 59).
Register governance news (from the register site): on 24 November 2023 and 14 April 2023 the EU Commission services confirmed that entries on the "questionable entries" list were not feed materials and were removed from the register; disagreeing notifiers were referred to their competent national authorities.
Note (2026-07-19): previous version was largely fabricated โ it claimed EFSA maintains the FMR and reviews applications quarterly, "~117,000+ entries", lettered "Section A-E" categories, "312 new insect meal entries in 2024" and "87 new algae protein entries in 2026 H1". All corrected or removed per the local register snapshot above.
