AAFCO 2014 dog DM basis

AAFCO 2014 Dog Food Nutrient Profiles on Dry Matter basis reflect the transitional split: Crude Protein minimum 22.5% DM (G&R) / 18.0% DM (Adult); Crude Fat minimum 8.5% DM (G&R) / 5.5% DM (Adult); Calcium minimum 1.2% DM (G&R) / 0.5% DM (Adult); Calcium MAXIMUM 1.8% DM (G&R and All Life Stages) / 2.5% DM (Adult Maintenance) — the pivotal split; Phosphorus minimum 1.0% DM (G&R) / 0.4% DM (Adult); Phosphorus MAXIMUM 1.6% DM for both life stages. The G&R Ca max of 1.8% specifically addressed large-breed puppy skeletal development concerns: per the 2014 Appendix A, the 2007 expert-subcommittee review recommended lowering the calcium maximum for large breed growth formulations to 1.8% DM (vs 2.5% previously), while adult dogs and small/moderate breeds retained 2.5%. These values were carried forward into AAFCO 2015 and, per the US nutrient profiles dataset, remain in the AAFCO 2024 Official Publication.
