# Europe's pet market — FEDIAF Facts & Figures 2024

**FEDIAF** (EuropeanPetFood) publishes the continent's reference pet-population and market dataset. The **2024 Facts & Figures** were published in **June 2026** and cover data year **2024**.

## Headline figures

- **140 million European households (49%)** own one or more of Europe's **306 million pets.**
- Annual pet-food **sales of €29.4 billion**, with a **volume of around 8.6 million tonnes.**

## How the data is built

- FEDIAF liaises with all **15 national association members**, who supply local population figures and market data where available.
- **Soulor Consulting** conducts a rigorous review, aligning data and adding verification against previous records, inflation figures and other metrics.

## Geographic coverage and comparability

- The report covers **all of the EU and EEA** and most of the remaining **Council of Europe** members — **41 of 48 CoE members**. Russia is no longer included.
- Because FEDIAF now gathers data from **two years prior to publication** (2026 → 2024 data), and because the country set changes, FEDIAF **advises against direct year-on-year comparisons.**
