Dog and cat food exports from the U.S.\nreached a record high in 2021 and will continue to increase,\nthough with slower growth in 2023.\nWith the dog population in the Philippines ranking fifth in the\nworld, dog food forms the bulk of pet food sales. Dry food\nforms the majority of dog food sales, with a nine percent\nforecast growth in 2023. Cat food, though minimal compared to\ndog food, has shown upward sales growth since 2017. Cat food,\nmostly the wet type, is estimated to grow 13 percent next year.\nPet food treats and mixers also present an opportunity. Growth\nin pet food for birds, fishes, and small mammals or reptiles\nremains minimal, averaging four million dollars since 2017.\n\nThe Philippines is the 7th largest\nmarket for U.S. agricultural\nexports. The country ranked the\nhighest in Southeast Asia in 2022\nfor U.S. consumer-oriented\nexports, valued at 1.6 million\ndollars, a 19 percent growth from\n2021.\nImporters, however, continued to\nexperience less competitive\nshipping rates and higher tariffs\ncompared to ASEAN, China,\nAustralia, and New Zealand.\n\nTable 1 Pet Food Products in the Philippines\nDog Food\n\ndry dog food, wet dog food, dog treats, and dog food mixers\n\nCat Food\n\nwet cat food, dry cat food, cat treats, and cat food mixers\n\nOther Pet Food\n\nfish food, bird food, and small mammal/reptile food\n\nSource: Euromonitor\n\n## Source\n\nUSDA GAIN (Global Agricultural Information Network)\nOriginal source: USDA Foreign Agricultural Service\n\n---\n\n*Last updated: 2026-07-18*\n","sources":[],"tokens_estimated":799,"generated_at":null,"tip":"Use /api/v1/topics to discover more topics. /api/v1/nutrient for precise single-point queries. /api/v1/cross_compare for 2-3 standard comparisons."}
